As unimaginable as it is when you consider that we are approaching the year 2022, we are looking forward to the future thanks to Benjamin Moore’s 2022 Color Trends Report, which was published today. According to Benjamin Moore’s press release, the famous brand voted October Mist 1495 the Benjamin Moore Color of the Year 2022 and you can see why.

Benjamin Moore’s press release states: “This gently shaded sage anchors quietly a room and at the same time promotes individual expression through color.”

The brand’s Create Your Canvas theme, designed in 14 colors, promotes calm and harmony and yet offers lively individuality in its colors. With a palette like this one, it’s easy to imagine snuggling near your book corner, inspired enough to jot down some ideas, or darting around the kitchen creating something new.

What colors were featured in this year’s report?

The line-up promotes a range of colors that seem to all blend together or gently – but somehow bold – stand on their own. This year’s list includes:

  • October Fog 1495
  • Mysterious AF 565
  • Touch of violet 2114-60
  • Morning dew OC-140
  • High park 467
  • AF-45 collector’s item
  • Venetian portico AF-185
  • Wild flower 2090-40

  • Steam AF-15
  • Fernholzgrün 2145-40
  • Silent Moments 1563
  • Natural linen 966
  • Gloucester Sage HC-100

The goal, according to representatives of Benjamin Moore, is to spark creativity, inspire homeowners to see their color options as a canvas with which to paint their intimate worlds, and to let their imaginations run wild. From the subtle and sunny Pale Moon OC-108 to the illustrious Wild Flower 2090-40, there is a color that appeals to everyone’s inner curiosity.

“As the spaces in our homes continue to evolve, we are discovering more and more ways to express our individuality and harness the power of color to create environments that serve different functions and styles,” said Andrea Magno, Benjamin Moore Director of Color Marketing and Development. “October Mist 1495 and the corresponding Color Trends 2022 palette reflect effortless color harmony and at the same time inspire unique combinations for every color project.”

The Forbes Home team loved that Benjamin Moore’s team was inspired by “everyday observations, hobbies, personal rituals and cultural influences” in everyday life. What could be nicer than creating a lively yet chic color palette that can grow with you instead of quickly going out of style just one season later?

How to find the right colors for your home

Of course, when choosing the best color for your project, color is weighted heavily, but there are a number of other factors to consider, such as:

The kind of paint you need

Before making your official paint purchase, consider what type of paint you will need for the room you are about to paint. While many colors appear interchangeable, knowing the difference between water-based and oil-based colors can save you time and money. Knowing their specific uses is also important, or you can spend more money later to do the project over with a professional painter.

Decide on the “vibe” of the room

Does this room work as a home office, which should have a motivating and stimulating effect, or as a guest room, for which you might choose more relaxing colors? What kind of time are you planning to spend in this room and how do you want you to feel in this room? All of these questions are crucial factors in choosing a color for your space.

Think about maintenance and pedestrian traffic

Also, when choosing a color for a particular room, consider how that color will maintain over the next few years or so. For example, if you are painting your mudroom, what colors look best when you encounter dirt, dust, and grime? A room with a high number of visitors is likely to have more kinks and bruises than a room with a low number of visitors.

For the best value for money in rooms with little wear and tear, flat paint is great. And remember: the higher the shine, the easier it is to clean.
