Founded in August 2016, the group of book lovers currently has 108,000 members, whose administrators live and work in many different locations such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, downtown Da Nang and northern Thai Nguyen Province. The group was formed to connect book lovers across the country so they can share their favorite books.
“There are many other groups like the group that loves detective stories, the group that loves classical literature, while the members of the group can love all kinds of books,” said Thien Tu, one of the group’s book lovers’ administrators.
The group of lovers of classic literary books has only been established for over a year and has more than 25,000 members. According to the group administrator Nguyen Hoai Cuu Duc in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, the group was simply founded to create a place for people interested in literature to exchange and discuss literature-related issues; so that the passion and love for literature are spread among everyone, especially young people.
In addition to its fan page and some platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, YouTube, Tiktok, Nha Nam Publishing and Communications Company, the Nha Nam Reading Club group was founded with almost 100,000 members. Although it is a group founded by Nha Nam, readers can still share and recommend books published by other publishers.
The deputy head of the communications department of Nha Nam, Dao Phuong Thu, announced that a few years ago Nha Nam intended to set up several platforms in addition to the main fan site to connect with readers.
In addition to the above groups, readers or book lovers can easily join other reading communities including the literary book lovers group with more than 8,000 members, the elite reading community with 72,000 members, the detective story lovers group with nearly 33,000 members. The establishment of many reading groups, according to Ms. Thu, is a good sign that the readers have space to share knowledge and exchange interesting things. The spread of book groups has certainly contributed to the promotion of reading.
With the exception of the group of publishers Nha Nam and Alphabook, most of the groups are created by the readers themselves; they are non-profit groups. These groups organized practical activities for the readers. For example, member Huy Truong of the Book Lovers group updates new books every month that are compiled by book publishers or divisions for readers to refer to.
Huy Truong said he initially only compiled new book news to share with other book lovers, so I didn’t put too much emphasis on the content. But later this general news unexpectedly became a special attraction for the group. There are currently a variety of book genres to suit the needs and common tastes of group members.
The positive effects on reading culture, as well as on publishers from online reading communities, are inevitable. Ms. Thu said the Nha Nam Reading Club is currently considered Nha Nam’s baby. Accordingly, feedback from members, including the acquisition of copyrights to feedback on editing or transmission errors, will be recognized by Nha Nam.
