New Nintendo Gigaleak files have been spotted showing some pretty interesting things, including early Wiimote prototypes and Mii concept art, both of which very different from the final product.
About a year ago, the Nintendo Gigaleak made waves on the internet by posting a ton of behind-the-scenes information about the Japanese video game software and hardware developer. The first set of leaks contained source code for classic games and development repositories.
Subsequent leaks contained other parts of Nintendo history like a lost one Deer crossing Villagers and a slightly different design for Mario from Super Mario world. A new round of leaks just surfaced online and shows us some more interesting things about the GameCube and Wii era, among other things.
New Nintendo Gigaleak files reveal a stranger Wiimote
One of the bigger revelations in the new Nintendo Gigaleak files is a set of five prototype Wiimote images saved in. to be shown this twitter thread by Forest of Illusion, a group dedicated to preserving Nintendo history. These prototypes are a little more complex than the final product as you can see in the picture above.
Two of the four prototypes had additional L and R buttons on either side of the A button (which is shown as the B button in the prototype pictures). Some of the stranger designs had arrow keys placed around the A key.
Nintendo Mii concept shows a very different design
Some Mii concept art was also revealed in the new Nintendo Gigaleak files, showing off some different customization options that we never got – check out what game developers and Conservation TV posted Twitter:
These Mii concept images show that players would have had the option to color code their gloves and shoes, possibly to highlight different players or teams in a game.
That’s not the only change in this concept drawing, however – a Mario-style plumber’s outfit and brown shows are also featured in the “Type 4” concept; Neither of these options were developed for the public when the Mii feature debuted.
What else was in the new Nintendo Gigaleak files?
The Wiimote prototypes and Mii concepts are the big things we can show right now, but that’s not all that has been revealed in the new NIntendo Gigaleak files.
China almost got a version of a GameCube as the successor to the iQue Player; a draft document to be created by iQue for a version of the console required the ability to play DVDs and CDs while leaving out the ability to play existing Nintendo GameCube discs. While the iQue Player was based on Nintendo 64 technology, this second Chinese game console should have been based on the GameCube.
ROMs and files related to Pokémon XY and Pokemon let’s go! Eevee were also included in the leak. Unfortunately, nothing significant has yet been discovered on the Pokemon front.
Our last point of interest is the “teru-sama_mail_2006.7z” file mentioned by Forest of Illusion. Twitter. This ResetEra post speculates that it may be referring to Pokémon Employee Teruki Murakawa. The same user also says there is speculation about a PC build of a Pokemon game.
That’s all we have right now. More details on these new Nintendo Gigaleak files are likely to be revealed in the coming days as people explore their content.
