For Charlotte drivers, it’s mostly black and white when it comes to what car colors they’ll be sporting on the road.

An analysis by iSeeCars revealed that white, black, gray and silver are the most popular vehicle colors in Charlotte. The demand for these colors corresponds to national trends, according to a national version of the study.

iSeeCars, a car search engine and consumer guide, surveyed approximately 6.1 million consumer car purchases nationwide to find out which colors were in demand. According to the study, 78% of the vehicles on the roads nationwide were white, black, gray and silver.

In Charlotte, these colors made up almost 80% of the vehicles in the area.

A spokesman for LIFT Auto Sales in Charlotte told The Charlotte Observer that color popularity varies from vehicle to vehicle.

According to the iSeeCars study, blue cars make up 9.4% of the cars on Charlotte’s streets, while 7.7% are red and 0.8% are brown. Green (0.7%), orange (0.6%) and beige (0.5%) are the least popular colors among Charlotte drivers.

“Usually it’s your white, gray and black for generic cars. But when it comes to sportier cars, red, yellow and blue are usually very popular,” the spokesman said. “That depends heavily on the vehicle type. With sportier vehicles, people would prefer lighter colors.”

Another factor is how many vehicles are made by color. LIFT Auto Sales says more cars in their fleet are in shades of gray than any other.

“There’s not really a lot of color choices out there for vehicles,” the spokesman told the Observer. “The standard colors are always very popular with normal everyday drivers.”
