Every 12 months, Pantone chooses a specific shade that forms the backbone for the year ahead. It is eagerly pursued by artists, designers, printers, manufacturers, hairdressers – practically everyone who uses color in their works. And for the coming four seasons, it’s time to put yellow and gray in the spotlight.

A SHORT STORY

In 1963 the “Pantone Matching System” was launched: a concept that was revolutionized to simplify color matching in the printing industry and to prevent color shades from being mixed up. To date there are over 1,114 colors, each of which has its own name – such as “Sunset Orange”, “Cotton Candy” or “Radical Red”. It is guaranteed that whether people are looking for a color now or 15 years later, people will get the same shade that caught their eye all those years ago.

In 2000 the Pantone Institute launched its “Pantone Color of the Year”. What started out as a simple marketing concept (like the Michelin star) has now become a recognized standard that many brands and companies are eagerly waiting to promote every year. Over the past 21 years, Aosom has received an abundance of different colors, ranging from lighter blues to pigmented reds to classic greens.

2021: ULTIMATE GRAY AND SHINING YELLOW

In Pantone’s own words, this combination is “a combination of colors that conveys a message of strength and hope that is both lasting and uplifting. And with the choice of two – not the usual one – the placement seems more important and prominent than ever. “

Here the two colors, which are brave enough in themselves, are intertwined to play on each other and to highlight them even better than before. Yellow is a classic bright color for spring and summer, and gray is an important shade in the darker months when the atmosphere becomes more moody. Pantone offers us the best of both worlds and presents two shades that accompany us all year round. And more importantly, when the two are mixed together, they keep propelling themselves for a dramatic effect. Whether people are downplaying it or want to unleash an eye-catching palette in their home – ultimate gray and bright yellow will allow people to do it.

YELLOW IN THE HOME

Right now is the perfect time to bring yellow home. As the world approaches spring by leaps and bounds, this color is a symbol of new beginnings and the sunnier seasons that lie ahead.

Instead of blending in with the background, bright yellows grab attention. This is where yellow can easily come into play when working with spots rather than changing the entire design of the room. By recording small remnants of it in the room, people can easily make their home more dynamic and lively – even with the slightest touch. One of the most famous and easiest ways to bring some of that sun shade into space is through useful furniture. An accent chair is perfect. Our set of two tub chairs is a fantastic way for everyone to quickly integrate color and still have a useful place to use and love. The upholstery with a soft velvet feel gives the environment a soft and refined feeling that blends seamlessly into other existing textures. The set of two also offers more leeway – it’s easy to create a look to match in dining and living areas when people want a full suite of furniture, or people can sit in different rooms of the house when people are enjoying some light want through.

If people really want to make that statement, especially if a room is adorning a retro or minimalist feel, then pick a standout piece to create a strong eye-catcher. How about a chunky industrial table or sideboard in a bright shade of yellow? The combination of sharp edges and large-format furniture makes it even more impressive if the current decor is more minimal and inconspicuous. Or how about yellow curtains, pillow cases or a lampshade?

Another great way to showcase yellow is through the walls. For rooms in white that want to spice up their look differently, how about an inward-facing feature wall? It is recommended to use a lighter shade as opposed to a darker yellow, but this subtle contrast helps to open up a room nicely. Bring some artwork if people are looking for a temporary pop of color instead.

And especially when the season starts – daffodils are a really nice way to add color this spring.

GRAY IN THE HOUSE

At Aosom, we’re huge fans of gray, and this year is the perfect time to really take in it at home.

In contrast to yellow, gray is arguably a lot safer to be welcome in the house. A neutral shade that is seldom contrasted with other colors and instead complemented so that it can be easily combined and stacked with other furniture – perfect for bringing in those weird pieces here and there. And while it’s neutral, gray has a magical way of highlighting certain lighter hues brilliantly to make them stand out even more. It should be noted that as an all-rounder, it is best to keep the dark tones away from walls (and sometimes wall art), otherwise it will create a gloomy and caged feeling in the apartment. Even so, it still works whether there is a little or a lot in the room.

Starting in the living room is a great way to incorporate gray into the home. Both buildable and impersonal, anyone can get involved and gradually add furnishings without ever feeling like it’s too much. Why not start with a gray sofa to set the tone people want to implement? This HOMCOM storage sofa is an excellent choice. With its compact dimensions, it is suitable for any room size, while the thick and comfortable upholstery will soon make it the most desirable seat in the house. And even better – it has discreet storage space so people can keep their space clean and tidy with ease. Thanks to the cotton upholstery, it can be easily mixed with other textures. For a touch of drama add this emerald green chair with a velvet feel and the trendy coffee table with ribbed top. The reduced color of the sofa and table allows the green to stand out strongly, while the ribbed top on the table gives the combination another dimension for additional effect.

If someone is a fan of velvety upholstery and wants this as a centerpiece, how about this luscious one Sofa bed? The great design is enough to add a bit of drama to the room, but it is easy to combine with its current decor.

Using large chunks of gray in the bedroom can be daunting, but if people want to try incorporating it into their personal space then start little and choose one Ottoman. This long tufted piece from HOMCOM ensures an elegant feel. It offers plenty of comfortable seating and holding space and at the same time brings a feminine feeling into the room – if that’s what people are looking for. Or, if people are looking for something with a similar vibe but do that little bit extra – opt for this round piece with built-in storage to keep people’s space tidy. The gold-toned hairpin legs provide a glamorous contrast, and its compact round size and comfortably padded top make it a great dressing table seat. This ottoman goes wonderfully with this HOMCOM chest of drawers drawers, where the mixture of white and gray creates a softer palette that does not inject a mass of gray at the same time, so it can be combined with other colors present in the room. And for extra style, we recommend integrating this floor lamp into the room.

If people are really looking for a lively way to complement gray in the bedroom (and other parts of the house, of course), we recommend using coral, pink, and lime green in the bedding, and home textiles help gently break up the darker edges – create instantly a mysterious and inviting feeling. And of course, if people want to take full advantage of their Pantone choice for the year ahead, pair it with some bright yellow tones for maximum impact.
