the Fiesta Tableware Co. celebrates two big anniversaries with a tent sale and other celebrations at its Newell, West Virginia factory outlet.

The company is celebrating 150 years of manufacturing in the USA and the 85th anniversary of the legendary Fiesta Dinnerware brand.

The sale of second quality pieces in tents takes place Thursday-Saturday from 8.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“We don’t want to do seconds, but we do,” says Katie Bricker, Fiesta’s director of marketing. “It might just have a tiny scratch, but it didn’t pass quality control.”

The large selection of dishes, vases, serving dishes and other goods will be reduced 50-80% off the regular prices in the second room of the Fiesta outlet store, said Bricker.

The 150th anniversary will be celebrated on Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. with music, food trucks, games, photo opportunities and meet-and-greets with characters from the company’s history throughout the day.

Visitors will also receive Fiesta cookies while supplies last.

Mark Gonzalez will present a live “Fiesta Roadshow” to identify the authenticity and value of selected pieces brought by visitors. Gonzalez has published four collector’s books on Homer Laughlin and Taylor Smith & Taylor merchandise, contributed to other publications, and authored more than 40 articles on ceramics.

Raffle prizes for tent sales include anniversary fiesta items, factory tours, line jump passes, tickets to a random raffle and other raffles, and fiesta gift certificates and t-shirts.

Participants in the random drawing must be present to claim the prizes. The main prize of the random raffle is a private behind-the-scenes tour of the factory, museum and exhibition space, as well as a vase for the 150th anniversary.

Online auction

The company has also opened its vault for an online auction that runs through Friday at Bid forgood.com.

One item known as a “showstopper” is a Raspberry Bowl (number 150 of 500), originally published on December 5, 1997, with a very limited edition of 500 in the raspberry glaze to commemorate the 500 millionth piece of fiesta that is produced.

The raspberry peel has raised more than $ 5,000 at auctions in recent years, according to a press release.

The Raspberry Bowl by Fiesta Tableware Co. was originally released on December 5th, 1997 with a very limited edition of 500 pieces in the raspberry glaze.

Other auction items include prototype small cups and a peacock batter bowl, both of which went out of production, and a one-of-a-kind Dancing Lady cookie jar.

“The auction items will end every five minutes on Friday from 2:30 pm,” said Bricker. “The auction ends with the … cookie jar.”

The company is partnering with the East Liverpool, Ohio High School Alumni Association for the auction to raise funds to promote educational opportunities in local school districts.

Stay relevant

Founded in 1871, Fiesta was one of the first white goods factories in the United States. Its products were first introduced during the Great Depression in bright colors of red, blue, green, yellow and ivory to lighten the mood.

One new color is introduced annually and another color is discontinued, 53 total so far. Fiesta is produced in 15 characteristic colors at all times.

The new color for 2021 is Twilight, which is a deep blue shade.

Introducing new colors “is one of the things that made it easy for us to keep (Fiesta) fashionable,” Bricker said. “We work hard to stay relevant.

“Another reason it’s so popular is because people have fond memories of using it in their grandparents ‘or parents’ homes,” she said. “It is one of the few tableware samples that is still available when it was made 85 years ago.”

The Fiesta Factory Outlet is located at 800 Fiesta Drive in Newell. For more information, visit fiestafactorydirect.com.
