BOSTON – The yellow and blue uniforms are back.

The Red Sox will wear their alternative jerseys with the Boston Marathon color scheme for all three games at Fenway Park against the Baltimore Orioles this weekend.

Boston and Baltimore will play the first game of their three-game series on Friday at 7:10 p.m. Chris Sale will be returning from the COVID list to start for Boston.

The alternative uniforms are part of Nike’s MLB “City Connect” series. The Red Sox wore them during Patriots’ Day weekend in April.

Some players asked to be worn again. And so, Boston will wear them again when it kicks off its final regular season home stand tonight.

“The City Connect uniform takes on colors that honor the spirit of the Patriots’ Day weekend and features’ Boston ‘in a stenciled font on the chest as a tribute to the Boylston Street finish line,” the Red Sox said in a statement at April. “The numbers ‘617’ are highlighted on the left sleeve as a reference to the Boston and Fenway Park area codes. The numbers appear in a racing number and honor one of the city’s most famous annual sports traditions. “

“We saw City Connect’s collaboration with Nike as an opportunity to celebrate the spirit of a unique Boston weekend,” said Adam Grossman, Red Sox’s chief marketing officer, in a statement earlier this season. “The departure from our traditional style pays homage to this iconic weekend and recognizes Boston’s audacity, culture and creativity.”

Nick Pivetta starts on Saturday and Nathan Eovaldi will pitch on Sunday.

Boston and Toronto are in a virtual tie for the top two wild cards this weekend, although the Jays have a percentage advantage as they played two games less. The Yankees are half a game behind.
